Prevention > Treatment

One of the areas I'm most passionate about is prevention. Whether its prevention of a muscle or tendon injury, osteoporosis (low bone density), cardiovascular disease, or a fall, I'm a strong believer that our current medical system does not promote PREVENTION, but rather TREATMENT after the fact.

Many don't realize that you actually don't have to be in a pain to see a physical therapist. I have so many clients who are pain-free, but not able to get back into exercise postpartum or during their menopausal transition without injuring themselves. I see many women in their late 30's and 40s who are wanting guidance of optimal bone strengthening exercises to PREVENT the possibility of osteoporosis or having a bone fracture.

Most of the injuries that we experience have problem been a "problem" in our own bodies before the injury even happens. For example, if you are a runner and are experiencing low back pain, you've probably did not build the proper foundations to running, so your body compensated its way for several months to years, and now you're experiencing pain. What I'm trying to say is that by the time you likely experience pain, the problem has probably already been "chronic." This means that your body is so smart at figuring out other ways of doing things. Your body is smart. It's versatile and adaptable. It will figure out another way of doing a certain movement so you can get the task done. However, this could lead to overuse of other muscles, resulting in pain after the fact.

Everyone should be PROACTIVE with how you are living. This includes optimal hydration, nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress management, emotional health. How you live in your 20's and 30's will affect and show up in your 40's, 50's and 60's. So, taking preventative measures now can prevent chronic diseases and musculoskeletal injuries in the future as you age.

So, I hope this encourages you that your overall wellness is so important. My joy is helping women with their overall wellness. I love meeting with my clients weekly to check in, do body work, and reexamine their movement and exercise routine so it's optimized towards not only their goals, but their overall wellness.
