I'm super excited to write this blog post.
Most Americans sit a lot. Think about it. We sit on chairs when we eat meals. We sit when we drive to work. We sit for 8-9 hours at the computer. We sit on the couch after a long day of work. No wonder most people can't squat very deep...because our deepest range of "squat" is the depth of the chairs we sit on! Not only are we sedentary Americans, we don't really move that much. We may fit in a 30 minute workout at the end of the day after feeling all stiff and such...but is 30 minutes of exercise really "enough" to nourish our bodies if we are just sitting for 8-10 hours a day?
So here is my first tip. MOVE NATURALLY. MOVE MORE. EXERCISE LESS. It's simple - find ways in your day to move in all angles, directions, and as much as you can! If you can bike to work, that is a great option versus sitting in the car! If you can take the stairs instead of the elevator, that is an easy way to incorporate movement in your day. Change up your position at work - go from sitting in a chair, to standing, to sitting crossed legged, to sitting in a deep squat. Go gardening in the backyard. The list goes on. My point is...you are going to get more physical activity when you move naturally throughout your day than going to the gym for a 30 minute workout.
KEY POINT: Move More. Exercise Less.
