Swinging to Slow Down: Finding Stillness in Motion
December 15, 2025
When was the last time you sat on a swing?
There is something so deeply comforting about the simplicity of a swing. I used to swing and go on the monkey bars everyday in elementary school.
Only recently did I understand how grounding that motion truly was.
One of my clients lives in Palo Alto, just a couple blocks from a sweet little spot called Cornelis Bol Park. I often have lunch there, and these past few weeks, I found myself wandering over to the swings.
That is when I noticed how powerful swinging was to regulate my nervous system. Each arc of the swing felt like a release. My feet dangled. I felt the tension release from my muscles. I felt light. I immediately let go of my thoughts and the need to “do.” There was something about that brief drop from the top of the swing’s peak that felt like pure surrender, like I was letting myself fall into flow.
On the swing, I do not need to think or perform. I do not need to be productive. I just move—back and forth—supported, held, and completely present. It is a small, simple rhythm, but in that motion, I feel so free. It is stillness in motion.
Surrendering is the key to unlocking your feminine energy. To living a softer, slower life.
Next time you need an idea for a friend date, go to a park and play on the swings! Add more play in your life. It feels so liberating.
