What is Slow Living?
December 6, 2025
Slow living is not just having a slower calendar. Or less things to do. Or walking and doing tasks at a slower pace.
It comes from the inside. Slow living is an inner state of trust, knowing, and certainty that “all is well.”
You could have an underscheduled calendar, yet carry this anxious energy that feels like you need to do more. You are still living in urgency and hurry.
Slow living is an energy that flows. Not an energy that is forced. There is a healthy sense of urgency, but not coated with anxiety, proving, or striving. Because I know my worth. And “doing” more does not equate to being "better."
It is to “be” rather than to “do.”
I find that I am present. Aware of my five senses. The fresh air on my face. The tidiness of my home. The quality of my attention is full.
I start to savour the simplest things. I want fewer things with greater quality.
I appreciate the mundane — the cooking, the cleaning, the laundry, the in-between moments. The focus shifts from getting things done to being fully engaged.
I single task. Rather than doing two things at once.
It appears in the way I show up. My ability to focus on the person in front of me. Their story. Their emotions. And ask questions. To be curious.
It is an inner state of peace. A peace that comes from within. Not from making other people agree with me. Or receiving the answer I needed to get closure. It is letting go of the things that are out of my control. And creating boundaries to protect my space, energy, and presence.
Slow living is hard. It is uncomfortable. It takes intentionality and self-awareness. It is not always natural. Practicing slow living on the daily is a continual work in progress for me. But when I am in the “zone,” I feel grounded, I gain mental clarity, and I have more joy in the everyday things.
