Protecting Your Energy

The feeling of being constantly tired, exhausted, and overwhelmed is something many people experience. And life seems to only be busier with time. Even in the busyness, we can still feel lonely. Unseen. Unknown. I am learning that it is not about just protecting my time, but also protecting my energy, too. It goes beyond just creating a balanced calendar visually, but also recognizing that some things recharge my energy battery while others drain it.

Upon reflecting, I have realized how difficult it can be to find and sustain meaningful relationships. Many are are exhausted and stretched too thin. Or, this constant noise of overstimulation easily drains us. It is difficult to have the full attention, energy, and presence to show up — for others and even ourselves themselves. I also admit to this as well and it is a continued work in progress. I think acknowledging our limits and pausing to assess how "charged" our internal batteries are could transform the way we approach every aspect of our life.

I wanted to share this little exercise. Write down the things that drain versus fills your energy. I have completed mine below.
While I am not perfect, I have noticed a shift in my inner state. I have more energy for the day ahead of me. I am able to show up more present and attentive for the people around me. I romanticize the small things in life, especially the in-between moments. It feels really good.
